This week we were delighted to sit down with representatives from You1st Emotional Support, a midlands-based community interest company providing vital mental health support to those who need it most.
Meeting CEO & Director Of Fundraising Lorna Smith we were able to hear first-hand how the company was formed, with Lorna starting her impressive work by simply checking in with neighbours in her local community during the pandemic.
Hearing more about the difficulties they were facing both in terms of mental health but also the many and varied issues that can stem from it, Lorna soon found herself taking on tasks as diverse as booking appointments, assisting with paperwork, and doing light housework for those struggling in her community.
Four years down the line, Lorna and her trusted team of volunteers continue to provide a vital and ever-growing lifeline to those in her community, operating a thriving food bank, providing advice ranging from financial to emotional, running extensive fundraising and partnering with businesses to raise both money and awareness for those struggling with their mental health.
Providing discrete support from a qualified grounding as a Mental Health Support Worker, Lorna has been able to help those struggling with serious issues as wide-ranging as addiction, sexual abuse, domestic violence, anxiety, depression and more, with all of these services provided to diverse segments of society spanning everything from young families to the elderly.
Pertemba are proud to have partnered with You1st to provide ongoing sponsorship and fundraising support, with £200 raised for the group during our recent Halloween Fun Day.
